A little about myself
Kirk Imamura received a graduate degree in mechanical engineering at Berkeley, California and later obtained an MBA from San Diego State University while working full time. He has 18 years experience in the consumer electronics industry working for Sony, and has worked in areas of equipment design, software development, manufacturing, product development and strategic & business planning. Since leaving Sony, Kirk has spent 17 years in the music industry successfully running and guiding the operations of Avatar Studios in New York City as President. During his tenure, projects recorded at Avatar include numerous Tony Award winning Broadway musical cast albums, film scores for Oscar nominated films and countless Grammy award winning songs & albums. Kirk served on the board of a couple of nonprofit organizations and now spends time regularly as a SCORE mentor counseling people to help start or grow their small businesses.
Data Scientist
Having obtained a Certified Data Specialist Certificate from Principal Analytics Prep (founded by industry thought leader Kaiser Fung) and completed the Data Analytics & Big Data Bootcamp from Rutgers University, Kirk loves to use Python, R, SQL and AWS to analyze datasets and apply his business domain expertise to make sense of the data.
Small Business Owner
For 17 years, Kirk has experienced every aspect of running a small business including finances, business planning, marketing, operations and human resources. Kirk used data analysis on financial, customer and competitor information to make strategic decisions.
SCORE Business Mentor
For the last two years, Kirk has volunteered his time to help mentor hundreds of people start up or improve their businesses in New York City.
